PD2 Salmon Days: STEM Professional Learning (Oct 2024)

Course Description

Place-based, professional STEM learning for K-8 teachers; Meet at the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery to experience instructional routines rooted in this setting, explore the history and ecology of salmon, related careers, and network with other professionals in this 3-hour session.

 Learning Objectives  

 1) Everyday Data: Engage in routines integrating math and science – specifically around counting, data collection, analysis, graphing, making observations, and asking questions.
   
 2) Learn from where we live: Investigate and learn ways to use local landmarks, ecosystem observations, and history of place to contextualize learning. 
   
 3) Sense making with STEM: Experience ways to build positive learner identities by constructing understanding together, being curious, and using science and math practices
   
 4) Professional Networking: Connect with other educators to explore and learn together

Full participation will allow you to earn three STEM WA clock hours. Upon completion, allow 3 weeks for processing.
