Culturally Sustaining Pedagogies in Children's Hospital Education: Disability Justice, Literacy Studies, and Racial Equity

Course Description

In this professional development series educators from Education Services at Children's Hospital will gain the knowledge and tools to center and sustain children with a focus on race, language, gender disability, migration and more. Each professional development opportunity will depend on faculty and graduate student expertise.

Learning Objectives

- Understand Disability Justice frameworks and understand how ableism operates in education and healthcare setting

- Understand the role of language, literacy, and culture, including in children's hospital settings

- Understand the ways race and racism operate across various settings, including hospital settings

- Taking into account the above dimensions of teaching and learning settings, understanding how to take a culturally sustaining approach to children's education and well-being
