A BIPOC Perspective of Reform in Applied Behavior Analysis

As the Neurodiversity Movement has grown, there has been a call to action both within and outside of the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for reform. It is important to consider whose voices are being heard and more importantly, whose voices are missing in discussions of neurodiversity and ABA reform. The BIPOC perspective has historically been missing from these discussions. Without understanding all perspectives, the field cannot move forward toward compassionate and clinical reform that leads to equitable outcomes. This presentation will demonstrate a case for ensuring all perspectives are present in the discussion on neurodiversity and ABA reform. A focus on aspects of clinical reform of ABA from a BIPOC perspective will be provided. Finally, suggestions for moving forward as a field will be discussed.
